Cub Clubs



​Cub Clubs offer Manoa School students experiences to Create, Learn, Understand, Build and Socialize (CLUBS). A list of classes and a brief description, as well as the dates, times and cost, can be found below.

​Cub Club Policy
Welcome to another semester of our after-school program called the Cub Clubs (Create, Learn, Understand, Build and Socialize)! Please see the webpage below for specific start and end dates of our classes.
 
Pick-Up and Drop-Off
Kindergarten students will be picked up at their classroom and walked to their Cub Club class. 
​
Students in grades 1 &2 will be escorted to their Cub Club for the first two
weeks of class and will need to walk on their own there after.

Students in grades 3-5 should walk to their designated Cub Club room on their own.
If your child is not sure where to go, please have them ask their teacher.

Students in A+, MVC, TLC or Japanese School
Please be sure to let your after-school program know the days your child will be attending cub clubs.

If your child is in A+ or TLC and you are picking your child up directly from their Cub Club classes
please have them sign out of their after-school program before going to their Cub Club class.

If your child will be going to MVC or Japanese school after their Cub Club class it is the responsibility
of the parent to make sure those providers know and pick up arrangements are made. 

If your child will be going to  A+ or TLC they will taken to their appropriate care provider.


After Class
Students who do not attend any after-school care will only be released to authorized people. Please be on time for
pick-ups. Those not picked up within 15 minutes of class ending will need to be picked up from the main office.
 
Student Absences
If you child will not be able to make it to their Cub Club, please notify the instructor of the class they will be missing. 
Refunds or makeups will not be given for the days the student misses classes.
 
Student Misconduct & Discipline
General school rules apply to Cub Clubs.
 
A student who commits a Chapter 19 class A or B offense shall be dismissed from the program.
 
A student who commits any Chapter 19 Class C or D offense will receive a warning for the first offense and may be
released from the Cub Club for the second offense.
 
There will be no refund of tuition in either circumstance.

Hawaii PhotoVentures (Grades 1st -5th)

In this brand new Play-Well program, Mr. Wrenn Okada returns to lead students on an in-depth photographic journey through the lens of professional Study Mirrorless cameras and the newly released Fujifilm Instax Mini Liplay camera.   With a new frame of mind, students will adventure through the world around them, and adjust their focus to shoot commercial, portrait, abstract and nature photography.   Principles in perspective, story telling, depth of field and much more will be reviewed while students shoot edit in camera, print and showcase their work in a take home portfolio. 

All materials will be provided and included Instax Mini Liplay Cameras, Instax fils, professional Sony mirrorless camera, lighting props, studio equipment, and more.  

New projects and concepts will be covered each semester and new and  returning students are welcome!

Manoa Tiger 'Ukulele Ensemble (Grades 3-5)

This class will give an opportunity for students to learn and play 'ukulele. Students will learn basic fundamentals of ukulele playing, music theory and ensemble playing. They will also be exposed to different genres of music such as Hawaiian, Blues/Jazz, pop and American folk. You do not need an 'ukulele to join or have any prior experience.

Bricks, Bots & Beakers  LEGO  (Grades K-2)

​This hands-on LEGO stem class introduces basic science and engineering concepts. Students will work together to build, test and record results creating fun simple machines that really work! Students learn how pulleys, levers, gears, wheels and axles work as they explore energy, force, buoyancy, balance and more.

  Sports JAM Academy (Grades K-3)

​SPORTS JAM ACADEMY  is a safe, fun and exciting sports training & fitness afterschool program, recommended for GRADES  K – 3rd.

Each 1 hour class session will emphasize speed & quickness development, as well as basic skills & drills in various team sports, (including Basketball, Football, Baseball & Volleyball).  Student/players will also learn about proper nutrition, teamwork, & positive sportsmanship & build self confidence - all while making new, lasting friendships.
All gear & equipment is supplied. Taught afterschool, onsite, in a safe and super-fun environment. (Limit 12 students per class).

Robotics  (Grades 3-5)

Students will have an opportunity to learn and explore the world of robotics.  Through VEX robotics, we will be looking at developing basic skills necessary to create functioning machines.  Students will also be fostering team-building abilities as they work with peers. This class is for students who are interested in robotics and who are willing to persevere and problem solve.

Q Golf School  (Grades K-5)

School LLC offers golf lessons to children with all equipment provided.  Lessons focus on basic athletic skills and coordination, as well as fundamental golfing skills of putting, chipping, pitching and full swings.  Students learn about rules, etiquette and math while participating in a variety of games designed introduce practice techniques, encourage sound golf skills, friendly competition and fun!  Come join us and learn some skills that can be enjoyed for a lifetime! B3- Bricks Bots and Beakers Class  (Grades K-4)

BRICKS Step by step building classes for Kids who like structure, to creative, open-ended classes, to kids who like to explore.
BOTS Coding comes natural to Children through the authentic, real world application of programming robots.
​BEAKERS From forming hypotheses to drawing conclusions. Kids become a Scientist and have a blast!

​ Hip Hop: Virtual Classes


Class Description:
Does your child dance around the house? Does your child have a lot of energy and charisma? Do you want your child to enjoy dance? If so, then I would love to share with them my love for dance and  provide a means for them to connect with peers over this distance learning period.  Hip Hop can improve muscle tone, strengthen posture, increase balance and coordination and improve health. But the biggest benefit of dance is that it’s fun. Your child will learn choreography to Pop and Hip Hop hits that currently dominate the airwaves. We dance to express not to impress.

Papa Hula:  Virtual Classes (Grades K-5)

Class Description:
Papa hula (hula class) offers haumāna (students) the opportunity to learn and solidify the basic feet and hand movements of hula. They will also learn oli (chant) that tells stories through expression of the voice. They will use this foundation to express the meaning of mele (song/ stories) through dance while learning what these mele are about and what we can learn from it.

STEM Challenge w/ LEGO® (Grades 1-5)

​Master your engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and tens of real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer-designed projects such as:  Elastic Catapults, Pneumatic Cranes, Arch Bridges, and Motorized Battletracks! Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment.  An experienced instructor will challenge new and returning students to engineer at the next level.  There is no prerequisite for this course, all materials provided and new projects will be featured every semester.  For more information please see flyer below and link to register.

Creative Writing (Grades 3-5)

Superheroes, unicorns, and enchanted forests, oh my! Students put their imaginations to the test in this fun after school class that allows them to practice important writing skills. Instructional lessons include essential elements of a story using plot diagrams, character and setting development, conflict, and climax. Each child will write his or her original story in a provided hardback book, just like a real author!

Reading Workshop (Grades K-5

​Reading books allow children to discover new lands, solve mysteries and learn important moral lessons. In this after school class a model reader transports students into a new world by reading aloud from a variety of genres. Every child wants, “one more story!” Reading is fun and promotes healthy brain function. Studies show children that are read to aloud more often have improved language and listening skills, experience stronger emotional connections, and gain a lifelong love of reading. Children will also have an opportunity to practice reading aloud to the class while building self confidence in front of an audience and exploring different voices.

Getting an early start in arts can make a real difference in the lives of children.  With encouragement and guidance, we provide hands-on classes for all grade students.  We have designed a fun and educational program to exceed standard art education and to inspire every child to reach their creative potential.  Our curriculum is varied to include still-life, figure drawing, landscaping and portraits.  Through the lessons, students will learn the fundamentals of art while experimenting with a variety of medium, including water color, acrylics, pastels and discovering the great artists work and techniques.
