Robotics Worlds in Dallas: Day 2

5/10/2022

We're all finally back in our hotel rooms showering and getting ready to go to bed after a very long, active, busy, but memorable and fun first day at the World Championships!  Since we returned so late, we weren't able to complete a student blog.
Here's a recap of our day:
  • Nice (later) wake up call at 7:30 am to enjoy our complimentary breakfast downstairs
  • Pack up everything and everyone to head to the convention center
  • Parking was a breeze BUT finding the expo/competition area was a task... AND THEN we went through "Wonderland" to figure out where our pit area was located.  Long story short, we found it.  Eventually.
  • Decorated our four pit areas "aloha style"=REPRESENT!
  • After setting up, we trekked our way over to the arena to join in on the Opening Ceremony for this World Championship.  It was amazing to see elementary schools from all over the world altogether (we were masked up, of course)!
  • Later, students practiced for their driving and programming challenges after completing their robot inspections.  Teams competed in their challenges and have a few more attempts each to make improvements to their final scores.
  • Lunch was eaten late... but we ordered from Sonics!
  • Throughout the time we were also able to go around the exhibit to pass out our chocolate bar gifts to each team (518 of them)!  Everyone loved it and loved that we were from Hawaii.  The students got to get out of their comfort zones and talk to people from around the world.
  • We made it to an escape room experience for each team to work on collaboration and problem solving skills.  They had fun!  Some "broke out" successfully!
  • Finally made it back to our hotel for a Chipotle dinner with the help of our parents who have graciously been helping and supporting us throughout the day.
  • Students are tired, but excited for competition tomorrow!
