Cub Club Policy
Welcome to another semester of our after-school program called the Cub Clubs (Create, Learn, Understand, Build and Socialize)!
 
Pick-Up and Drop-Off
Kindergarten students will be picked up at their classroom and walked to their Cub Club class. 
 
Students in grades 1 &2 will be escorted to their Cub Club for the first two
weeks of class and will need to walk on their own there after.
 
Students in grades 3-5 should walk to their designated Cub Club room on their own.
If your child is not sure where to go, please have them ask their teacher.

Students in A+, MVC, or Japanese School
Please be sure to let your after-school program know the days your child will be attending cub clubs.
 
If your child is in A+ and you are picking your child up directly from their Cub Club classes
please have them sign out of their after-school program before going to their Cub Club class.
 
If your child will be going to MVC or Japanese school after their Cub Club class it is the responsibility
of the parent to make sure those providers know and pick up arrangements are made. 
 
If your child will be going to  A+ they will taken to their appropriate care provider.
 
After Class
 
Students who do not attend any after-school care will only be released to authorized people. Please be on time for
pick-ups. Those not picked up within 15 minutes of class ending will need to be picked up from the main office.
 
Student Absences
 
If you child will not be able to make it to their Cub Club, please notify the instructor of the class they will be missing. 
Refunds or makeups will not be given for the days the student misses classes.
 
Student Misconduct & Discipline
General school rules apply to Cub Clubs.
 
A student who commits a Chapter 19 class A or B offense shall be dismissed from the program.
 
A student who commits any Chapter 19 Class C or D offense will receive a warning for the first offense and may be
released from the Cub Club for the second offense.
 
There will be no refund of tuition in either circumstance.

Gears are turning, motors are revving, and imaginations are taking off! In this hands-on engineering lab, students will explore the exciting world of physics, mechanics, architecture and design using thousands of LEGO® bricks and specialized components. From motorized ziplines and battle-ready Pokémon walkers to towering skyscrapers and speeding gear cars, each project is a creative STEM challenge that turns play into purpose. Working collaboratively in a fun, supportive environment, young builders will sharpen their problem-solving skills, experiment boldly, and bring big ideas to life. Whether they’re new to LEGO engineering or returning for more, students will be guided by an experienced instructor to build smarter, stronger, and more creatively than ever before. Each semester of classes features brand-new projects, and all materials are provided.  This class is presented by Wrenn Okada Photography & Design.  Only 18 spots available!

Pokémon Masters Card League (Gr. 2-5) at Manoa Elementary 

 

Calling all Pokémon Trainers, collectors, and fanatics—your next evolution begins here! In this action-packed course, students will dive deep into the official Pokémon Trading Card Game. They’ll learn gameplay rules, develop winning strategies, and build a custom deck to battle classmates and compete for powerful cards and exclusive prizes. But it doesn’t stop there—trainers will also boost their design skills by illustrating their favorite Pokémon to create a custom laser-engraved metal coin, a one-of-a-kind addition to their personal collection. Throughout the course, students will break open booster packs, chase rare cards, trade with classmates and learn beginner-friendly investment tips to turn their hobby into a potential goldmine. Every participant will receive their own starter deck, bonus cards, and their custom coin to take home. New decks, coins, packs, and prize cards featured each semester—so returning trainers always have something fresh to catch.  This program is presented by Wrenn Okada Photography + Design.  Only 18 spots available!

Q Golf School (Gr K-5)

Q School LLC offers golf lessons to the children of Manoa Elementary on site with all equipment provided.  Lessons focus on basic athletic skills and coordination, as well as the fundamental golfing skills of putting, chipping, pitching and full swings.  Students learn about rules, etiquette and math while participating in a variety of games designed to encourage sound golf skills, introduce practice techniques, friendly competition and fun!

Getting an early start in arts can make a meaningful difference in the lives of children.  With encouragement and guidance, we offer hands-on classes for students of all grade levels.  Each semester, we create a fun and educational program designed to inspire every child to reach their creative potential.  Our curriculum includes a variety of subjects.  Through these lessons, students will learn the fundamentals of art while experimenting with different mediums–including watercolor, acrylic painting, and pastels–and discovering the techniques of great artists throughout history. 

 
Each student will take home their own painted canvas plus many other projects.

Class Description
Designed and created by teachers, architects and engineering professionals, the Future Engineers After School curriculum by BRICKS 4 KIDZ® introduces kids to S.T.E.M. concepts (science, technology, engineering/architecture/physics, and math) using LEGO® bricks! Kids will develop skills like critical thinking, collaboration, innovation, communication and much more! They will build a different model each week.
 
We change our models every semester! Bring out the inner Einstein in your little one...who knows, they might just create the next big thing!
 
*Note: Students in 3:30 class must be enrolled in A+ or another after school program
PRIOR to our class start. Or parents will need to pick up student after school and
return to school just before class start time.

CHESS
 
Beginner Chess Club: Grades K-5 - FRIDAYS 2:15-3:15
The Beginner Chess Club is intended for students who are new to chess or who are still learning how to play. Students will be introduced to the rules of chess, how each piece moves, and simple strategies to get started. Through guided lessons, fun activities, and friendly games, students will build confidence and enjoy the challenge of learning something new. Along the way, they’ll strengthen critical skills like focus, patience, and problem-solving—all while having fun with classmates who are learning too! 
 
Intermediate Chess Club: Grades 2-5 - FRIDAYS 3:30-4:30
The Intermediate Chess Club is intended for students who have experience playing chess and want to grow their skills. Students will sharpen their problem-solving abilities, learn advanced strategies, and practice thinking ahead and visualizing the board. Each session will help students become stronger, more confident players, while having fun with others who enjoy the game too. If you’re ready to take your chess game to the next level, this club is for you!
 
*Note: grade levels listed are general guides; younger players with sufficient experience may sign up for the Intermediate Chess Club.
 
The Chess Club is led by Coach Scott, a nationally rated player and former member of his National Championship-winning high school chess team.

Girl Scouts is starting an after-school troop that provides a structured, girl-led environment for girls to learn new skills, build confidence, and develop leadership qualities through engaging activities and community involvement. We offer a safe space for girls to explore their interests, make friends, and contribute to their communities.

Karate
Japan International Karate Center (Gr 1-5)
Respect. Discipline. Confidence. Since 1962, Japan International Karate Center (JIKC) has been teaching students across Oahu the values that build character and strength both on and off the mat.  As the largest karate dojo on the island, with locations from Pearl City to Kapolei, JIKC currently
serves around 750 students and is excited to bring this transformative program to Manoa Elementary starting January 2026!  Students will develop physical fitness, mental strength, and positive relationships through the 5 Basic Precepts of Karate!
 
Through weekly instruction, students will explore the 5 Basic Precepts of Karate that guidebehavior in and out of the dojo:
     1. Uphold the principles of propriety and courtesy
     2. Cultivate the spirit of effort
     3. Perfect a mind of patience
     4. Live the way of truth
     5. Do not lose self-control or act in a violent manner
 
Students will also learn basic karate moves, sequences, and sparring techniques designed to promote physical fitness and foundational skills for success in athletic activity. Through this training, students develop positive mental strength through seriousness, effort, and resilience; mental
attitude through initiative, responsibility, and pride; and relationships with others through appreciation, consideration, and unity.

● An island-wide "Battle of the Dojos" tournament held by JIKC to promote competitive spirit and self-confidence
● Additional activities to be announced throughout the program
 
These events establish a sense of community through martial arts, shared culture, and the principles of Karate

Chinese Education Program
 
 
Chinese Education Program at Manoa Elementary School Program and Course Description:
Chinese Education Program (CEP) is a dynamic and engaging Chinese language and culture program. Through interactive lessons, songs, and group activities, students will immerse themselves in the rich Chinese cultural heritage. By the end of this program, students will be able to spark conversations surrounding the traditions, customs, and norms of Chinese culture. The course will not focus on Chinese language, but rather learning ancient and modern-day practices and celebrations. Accordingly, young learners are able to be exposed to a different culture which can develop a sense of cultural appreciation. Supervised by a Punahou School teacher, this class is taught by qualified Punahou High School students with experience in guiding and supporting elementary students through the Mandarin Chinese language and culture!
