SEXUAL HEALTH EDUCATION

Schools are required to provide comprehensive sexual health education that follows the requirements set forth in the Hawai‘i Revised Statutes (HRS) §321-11.1 Medically Accurate Sexuality Health Education, Hawai‘i State Board of Education (Board) Policy 103-5 Sexual Health Education, and aligns with state Health Education standards.

We have selected FLASH. It is a public health approach to sex education. Elementary FLASH is a curriculum developed, maintained, and copyrighted by Public Health – Seattle & King County. It has been revised and updated over the years with input from teachers, administrators, parents, students, and health professions all over the United States. The curriculum is aligned with Hawai‘i’s Health Education standards and has been reviewed using criteria from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (HECAT), the CDC’s Characteristics of an Effective Health Education Curriculum, and the National Sex Education Standards.
